ATTENTION TO ALL COACHES, COMMISSIONERS AND PRESIDENTS:

Dear PGCBGC Kickball Family, 

As you all know, the youth sports community is facing an unprecedented test determining when and how to move forward with outdoor competitions and leagues considering the excessive heat advisories and field conditions. The health and safety of our athletes, coaches, staff, families, and friends is paramount. The Prince George's County Boys and Girls Club (PGCBGC) has reviewed several options and entertained alternatives regarding the facilitation of the upcoming 2024 PGCBGC Co-Ed Kickball League tentatively scheduled to start on Saturday July 13, 2024. After careful deliberations amongst our Sports Office personnel and the PGCBGC Executive Committee, I am disappointed to report that it has been unanimously agreed upon that the 2024 Co-Ed Kickball League be cancelled. 

Several factors contributed to this decision and made our annual league impractical at this time. The factors included low participation/interest, the number of teams, practice/game field accessibility, and weather heat restrictions. Due to only having ten committed teams amongst three divisions and the lack of willingness to consolidate in several divisions creates an unproductive league which is not cost-effective. Also, another major logistical hindrance is the fact that the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) will be closing all fields for maintenance beginning July 15, 2024 for two weeks. With field closures throughout the County, game and practice fields will not exist. 

The PGCBGC will continue to actively collaborate with Kickball officials and experts locally and regionally to monitor and assess the viability of next year's league. We will communicate updates to our Kickball family as we continue to positively move forward. We are grateful for your understanding in this matter and thank you for your commitment to our great student athletes.
